Books and movies you might like

Books – With the exception of those books that are written for the specific purpose of describing the Spiritist philosophy, there are books that are written that have tapped into some of the basic concepts of Spiritism and further the universal acceptance of it’s concepts. Here are some selections.

Movies – There are only a couple of movies that were made to share the Spiritist philosophy with its viewers but there are many that like books have much to offer to widen our understanding.

  • Kardec – 2019 A 1h 50m dramas based on real life in Catholic 19th-century France, professor Léon Rivail attends a séance and is moved to found spiritism. Although the movie is in Portuguese it has English subtitles that only slightly detracts from the experience of viewing this entertaining biography of a man who had the mission in life to advance mankind’s understanding of the meanings of life and death

  • Defending Your Life – Defending Your Life is a 1991 American romantic comedy – fantasy film about a man who dies and arrives in the afterlife only to find that he must stand trial and justify his lifelong fears in order to advance to the next phase of existence or be sent back to Earth to do it again. Stars Albert Brooks, Meryl Streep, Rip Torn, Lee Grant, Buck Henry.
  • Contact – “Contact” is a film that takes place at the intersection of science, politics and faith. Those are three subjects that don’t always fit easily together. In the film, an alien intelligence transmits an image of three pages of encrypted symbols. The movie presents the idea that there are intelligent beings on other worlds and that they’ve been to Earth before and have been guiding us.
